【摘要】:AsexplainedinTestMethodD4595,narrowgeotextilespecimensdemonstratethetendencytocontract(neckdown)inthegageareawhenunderstress.Thewiderwidthspecimenwillminimizethisphenomenoninseamsduringstrengthtesting.Theresultsachievedinthistestmethodcanmoreaccuratelycorrelatetotheseamstrengthvaluesanticipatedinthefield.Thistestmethodcanbeusedtomeasuretheseamstrengthofgeotextiles,andmayalsobeusedforacceptancetestingofcommercialshipmentsofgeotextiles.Whenstrengthisnotnecessarilyadesignconsiderationofseaminteraction,analternatemethodfordeterminingtheseamstrength,suchasTestMethodD1683,maybeuseddependingonthespecificationrequirements.Becausecurrentinformationaboutlaboratoryprecisionisincomplete,comparativetests,asdescribedin5.2.1,maybeadvisable.Incaseofadisputearisingfromdifferencesinreportedtestresultswhenusingthistestmethodforacceptancetestingofcommercialshipments,thepurchaserandthesuppliershouldperformcomparativeteststodetermineifthereisastatisticalbiasbetweentheirlaboratories.Competentstatisticalassistanceisrecommendedfortheinvestigationofbias.Asaminimum,thetwopartiesshouldtakeagroupoftestspecimensfromthesamelotofgeotextile,thatutilizealikemethodofseamassemblytoachieveseaminteraction.Thespecimensshouldthenberandomlyassignedinequalnumbertoeachlaboratoryfortesting.Ifabiasisfound,eitheritscausemustbedeterminedandcorrected,orthepurchaserandthesuppliermustagreetointerpretfuturetestresultsinlightoftheknownbias.Althoughothermethodsofdeterminingseamstrengthareavailable,thistestmethod,thatmeasureswidespecimens,willmoreaccuratelycorrelatetotheanticipatedperformanceinthefield.Thistestmethodcanbeusedtohelpdetermineseamdesignengineeringforthegeotextilesbeingevaluated.1.1Thistestmethodcoverstheseamstrengthofgeotextiles.Theprimarydistinctionofthistestmethodforevaluatingseamstrengthisthewidthofthespecimen.ThisisincontrasttothemorenarrowspecimenwidthusedinthetensilegrabstrengthtestdiscussedinTestMethodD1683.1.2Thistestmethodwillprovidedatatoindicatetheseamstrengththatcanbeachievedforeachparticulargeotextileandseamassemblyconstruction.1.3ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasstandard.Theinch-poundunitsgiveninparenthesesareprovidedforinformationonly.1.4Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
