【摘要】:Theperformanceandqualityofsteam-treatedmaterialsdependsuponthesurfacecleanlinessofthematerialpriortosteamtreatmentandtheadequacyoftheprocessing.Steamtreatmentcanbeusedasadecorativecoating,producingablue-graytoablue-blackappearance.ItcanreducethesusceptibilityofferrousPMmaterialstofurtheroxidationandcorrosion,thusprovidingbettershelflife.Moresignificantly,improvementsinapparenthardness,compressivestrength,wearcharacteristics,andsomemechanicalproperties(seeAppendixX1)canbeobservedduetosteamtreatment.Thehardnessofmagnetite(Fe3O4)formedduringsteamtreatmentistypicallyequivalentto50HRC,andwhenpresentinsinteredmaterials,theirwearresistancecanbeimprovedsignificantly.Steamtreatmentisalsousedtosealpartsorprovideabasematerialforadditionalcoatings.SteamtreatedferrousPMmaterialsareusedinmanyindustries,includingautomotive,marine,homeappliancesandlawnandgardenapplications.1.1Thisguideisintendedasanaidinestablishingandmaintainingaprocedureforthesteamtreatment,alsoreferredtoassteamblackening,ofsinteredferrousPMmaterialsandtheappropriateuseandevaluationofthesematerials.AdditionalinformationconcerningtheeffectofthisprocessonferrousPMmaterialpropertiesiscontainedinAppendixX1.1.2Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
